head shot of Teri McHugh in a professional attorney attire

Drawing upon her diverse and extensive civil litigation experience, Teri’s unique insight enables her to effectively advocate for clients ranging from large corporations to small companies and individuals, ensuring personalized and comprehensive legal representation for all.

Teri is the founding member of the Law Office of Teri A. McHugh, PLLC and has been a litigator for more than twenty years.

Teri specializes in workers’ compensation litigation and practices in both Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Her career has centered around representing insurers and employers, and she also possesses extensive experience advocating on behalf of injured workers. This multifaceted perspective uniquely equips her to navigate the distinct challenges each party faces during litigation, setting her apart from most attorneys.

Teri initiated her legal journey as an Assistant District Attorney at the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office, cultivating invaluable trial expertise in prosecuting diverse criminal offenses. She later expanded her trial experience at Boyle | Shaughnessy Law, P.C. (BSL), a distinguished insurance defense firm with offices spanning New England and New York. Over nearly two decades with BSL, Teri's practice focused on workers’ compensation, product liability, construction defect and accident, as well as professional malpractice litigation across state and federal courts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Moreover, she assumed a leadership role as a Shareholder, overseeing the Workers’ Compensation Group at BSL.

“I have always been passionate about problem-solving and assisting others, and practicing law allows me to merge these two interests. As an attorney, I thoroughly enjoy demystifying the complexities of the law for my clients, and I take pride in elucidating the underlying reasons behind legal principles, enabling people to comprehend not only the what and how but also the why behind the law.”

Teri's proficiency in workers’ compensation garners frequent invitations from Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) to serve as faculty or co-chair webinars and programs. Notably, Boston Magazine recognized her as a Top Lawyer in Workers' Compensation. Teri actively participates in the Workers’ Compensation Section Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association, and her involvement as a voting member of the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council began with her appointment by Governor Patrick in 2009.

Motivated to combine the knowledge and skills she acquired at a midsize firm with the personalized attention unique to a small firm, Teri established the Law Office of Teri A. McHugh, PLLC. This move allows her to offer the best of both worlds: comprehensive legal expertise and an individualized experience for her clients.
